![]() To atone for his crime, Heracles was commanded to perform a series of tasks or “labors” for his cousin Eurystheus, the king of Mycenae.Įurystheus hated and feared Heracles, so he assigned him the most challenging and dangerous tasks he could think of (in some accounts, Hera helped with this). This madness had been inflicted by Hera, who wanted to make Heracles suffer. Heracles completed his famous “Twelve Labors” after killing his family in a fit of madness. National Archaeological Museum, Naples / Marie-Lan Nguyen CC BY 2.5 The Twelve Labors of Heracles The "Farnese Hercules" by Glycon of Athens (early 3rd century CE) He was especially important in the Boeotian city of Thebes, where he was born, and in Dorian cities such as Sparta, which claimed him as an ancestor. The cult of Heracles was widespread in ancient Greece. Thus, he was one of the few Greek heroes to be worshipped as a full-fledged god. However, it was said that after his death, Heracles was granted immortality and a seat beside the gods on Mount Olympus. Heracles was technically a demigod, the son of a god and a mortal. Nessus and Deianeira by Arnold Böcklin (1898) Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern Public Domain Was Heracles a god? As the pyre burned, Heracles’ soul ascended to the heavens to join the gods. Realizing that he was dying, he had a great pyre built. When Heracles put the shirt on, he immediately began to burn up. But Nessus had deceived Deianira: the “love potion” was actually laced with the toxic blood of the Hydra. In the most familiar version of the myth, Deianira feared that Heracles loved another woman, so she sprinkled his shirt with a love potion that had been given to her by the Centaur Nessus. Heracles was accidentally killed by his final mortal wife, Deianira. Felicísimo CC BY 2.0 How did Heracles die? National Archaeology Museum, Lisbon / Ángel M. From the Villa Torre de Palma near Monforte. Mosaic panel showing the mad Heracles (center) killing his child (bottom right) as his wife Megara (left) stands by (third or fourth century CE). This marriage represented Heracles’ reconciliation with the stepmother who had made him suffer throughout his life. But he had many lovers in between, including the Eastern queen Omphale, who would wear Heracles’ lion skin while forcing the hero to work the loom.Īfter he died and became a god, Heracles married Hebe, the goddess of youth and a daughter of Hera. Heracles’ final wife, Deianira, inadvertently caused the hero’s death. But their marriage was cut short when Heracles was driven mad by Hera and killed his own children (in some versions, he killed Megara, too). Heracles’ first wife was a woman named Megara. Despite his failings, Heracles was promoted to the ranks of the gods after his death. He was hot-tempered, violent, and lustful, and these characteristics contributed to his struggles as much as Hera’s hatred did. Heracles, like the other heroes of ancient Greece, was not without his flaws. Through these labors as well as his many other exploits, Heracles became known as a champion of civilization and a slayer of monsters. Of all Heracles’ heroic deeds, the most important were the Twelve Labors, which the hero was forced to perform for his cousin Eurystheus, the High King of Mycenae. Hera ensured that Heracles’ life was filled with hardship and tragedy. Because he was the product of one of Zeus’ many affairs, Heracles was hated and hounded by Zeus’ jealous wife Hera. Heracles, the son of Zeus and Alcmene (a mortal woman), was a Greek hero and demigod.

Well worth your time, if you can deal with a truly slow burn.It seems like the storyline in Elizabeth Harvest offers plenty for its actors to have fun with. While the plot is convoluted and suffers at times the technological aspects of the film and its performances manage to just about salvage it.Įlizabeth Harvest is well worth your time, with a myriad of twists and turns and some truly philosophical plot threads that are tied up neatly in a bow by the end. She plus Elizabeth perfectly simple minded, beautiful, doe eyed and extremely confused, scared and intrigued by everything going on around her. The main draws of the film are it’s beautiful cinematography, scenery, some fantastic elements of horror and suspense and an absolutely mesmerising performance from leading lady Lee. ![]() Despite a fantastic set up and an overall great plot however, the film suffers due to an overly long runtime and far too much exposition (though the exposition is necessary and even with it the film is still hugely confusing at times). I can’t say much more of the plot without spoiling but the film could be seen as a modern adaptation of the 17th century fairytale Bluebeard. Everything seems perfect and there’s only one rule a single basement room is off limits to Elizabeth, no matter what.Įlizabeth promptly breaks the rule and discovers the shocking secret Henry and Claire are hiding and this sets in motion a series of events that are both marvellous whilst madly confusing and thought provoking. Her obstetrical history revealed that she was second gravida. Her past history was significant for long-standing anaemia of mild to moderate severity of unknown etiology that did not respond to therapeutic trials with iron or other vitamin supplementations. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case report of Rhnull syndrome from Pakistan.Ī 22-year-old pregnant female previously typed as blood group A, Rh (D) negative with positive red cell antibody screen was referred to AKUH clinical laboratory for identification of antibody. In this report, we describe the rare Rhnull phenotype in a young female who was referred to our laboratory for routine antenatal red cell antibody screening and identification. Both genotypes result in the same clinical syndrome characterised by chronic haemolysis of varying severity, with stomatocytosis, spherocytosis, increased osmotic fragility, altered phospholipids asymmetry, altered cell volume, defective cation fluxes, and elevated Na+/K+ ATPase activity. The \'amorph\' type is the result of molecular change in RHCE gene with a deleted RHD gene, whereas the more common \'regulator\' type is associated with the defect in RHAG gene. The Rhnull is produced by at least two different genetic mechanisms. 2 In Rhnull subjects the commonest antibody formed in response to transfusion or pregnancy reacts with all cells except Rhnull cells. In addition to lacking Rh antigens, Rhnull cells also lack LW and Fy5, and have a reduced expression of Ss, U, and Duclos antigens. 1 The characteristic hallmark of Rhnull phenotype is the lack of all Rh antigens on the RBCs. Rhnull phenotype (also referred to as Rhnull syndrome or Rhnull disease) is a rare blood group with a reported frequency of approximately 1 in 6 million individuals. ![]() It is one of the most polymorphic and immunogenic systems and, next to ABO, is the most clinically significant blood group in transfusion medicine. The Rh blood group system consists of at least 45 independent antigens and was first described in 1939. ![]() Herein, we describe a nanoscale transformation that uses thermal response to create an organic-metallic cage out of macrocyclic building blocks. The development of controlling macrocycle structure and related assembly structure is still ongoing. Currently, macrocycles are often assembled in fixed forms. It is noteworthy that ligand modulation typically necessitates premodification, laborious synthesis, and/or guest addition in metal–organic self-assembly (such as metal–organic cages) 7, 19, 49, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59. Massive coordination cages and their potential applications have drawn a lot of attention, but corresponding approaches still have to be developed 47, 48, 49, 50, 51. These coordination cages are prospects for advanced functional materials due to their large interior volume, regulated cavity environment, and high porosity. Macrocycles have recently become a popular building element for creating metal–organic cages. Achieving heating-induced interconversion control between three or more different stiff isomers of artificial systems is still challenging 3, 12, 28, 34. ![]() ![]() However, some biomacromolecules have been found to have more than two distinct stable or metastable folding configurations. Some examples of thermal-induced conversion between two forms are achieved 28, 34, 35. Additionally, it is used as a slipping technique in the production of rotaxane 17, 27, 33. The temperature response in particular is a typical occurrence in biological systems. Functional macrocycles with stimulus responses are frequently used for catalysis 4, 22, 29, drug delivery 9, 19, 21, 24, substance separation 4, 24, 30, adsorption 5, 20, and recognition 9, 10, 21, 31, 32. Responses to environmental stimuli are essential for changing these systems’ particular architecture and associated features 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. In both live organisms and artificial systems, macrocycles are crucial to the construction of self-assembling structures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. ![]() Once you master these fine margins, you can rival the very best players of car games. You can take that corner a little bit sooner, or brake later, and get as close as possible to the perfect racing line. ![]() Either way, a great part of driving games is that there is always scope for improvement. On the other hand, you might prefer a more immediate experience where you can get straight into the highest echelons of action, getting your hands on the fastest, top of the range cars. This progression system is an added incentive to win races and accumulate in-game currency, moving on to bigger and better things with every victory. There are car games that incorporate elements of simulation or puzzle games, offering unique challenges and objectives.Ī popular feature of some car games is the option to upgrade and improve your car, or even replace it with an entirely new model. Occasionally, you may enter a first-person perspective, controlling the car as if you were the racer themselves. With this being said, there are many exceptions to the formula. Most often, you’ll take control of your vehicle from the rear in a 3D perspective, steering around the environment, dodging obstacles, and striving to achieve the best lap time possible. Beyond that, there are lots of differences that separate car games, with some being to do with gameplay, and others being more stylistic. The first and only objective rule of car games is that they will involve driving of one form or another. They’re all totally free to play, so you can feel free to indulge in some heart-pumping driving, regardless of what device you’re browsing on. All the evolutions of the car game genre have led to the current climate of online games, with many varieties of the genre available to play on GamePix. The gaming landscape shifted dramatically with the release of Grand Theft Auto in 1997, a game which took you out of a fixed racing track and into more of an open world, merging car games with action-shooters. By the 1990s, there was a diverse marketplace for different kinds of driving games, ranging from the fun-filled Mario Kart to the hyper-realism of Gran Turismo, right back to the arcade experiences of Namco’s Ridge Racer. The first true car game was Gran Trak 10, which was released in 1974, introduced the concept of using a steering wheel mounted to the arcade cabinet, which was revolutionary for the genre.Īs technology, particularly graphics, began to progress, car games became more subtle and captivating. The two-player game features tiny spacecrafts that race against each other, competing to reach the top of the screen. Instead, games like Space Race (1973) by Atari satisfied gamers’ desire to race. ![]() The earliest racing games had limitations due to graphical constraints, with cars unable to be rendered properly due to the limited number of pixels available. From relatively humble beginnings to the cutting edge of graphics and physics engines, the evolution of racing games has been nothing short of remarkable. It’s no surprise, then, that driving cars has become a major component of so many of our favorite action-packed, fast-paced games over the years. Online video games allow us to pull off thrilling maneuvers on four wheels that we could only dream of attempting on real roads. If you enjoy the thrill of a fast car but can’t put the pedal down safely in real life, then the perfect place to enjoy speed is in the world of car games. ![]() How to unlock the Tailgater S Trade Price?Ī trade price of $1,121,250 (Discounted)* can be unlocked for the Tailgater S.Car Games Car Games: Feeling the Need for Speed Once acquired, you can request the delivery of the Tailgater S from the Mechanic. Sometimes depending how he is progressing we take an easy day and go back to word machines or to the first few books in unit one of "more phonics". One of my kids flew through that whole section.
